About Julie Morgan  @Copyrights by Jim Brandon At age 12, in the land locked state of Oklahoma , I decided that I would be a scuba diver. It was several years later in Cozumel , Mexico , that I realized that goal and experienced the use of an underwater camera and then bought my first Nikonos. I was hooked and I gave up my ‘day job' as a commercial artist in Austin , Texas . Moving to Florida to be closer to the sea I eventually ended up on the island of Bonaire as a photo/video instructor for 8 plus years. During those years I realized my respect for the sea and it's inhabitants, conservation of the oceans and “MY LIFE PASSION.” I have been diving and shooting a camera underwater for over 20 years. Most of that time has been working at various resorts as a photo pro in Bonaire , Turkey , Egypt and Cayman. I have worked with other divers helping them find their way around still and video cameras and how to best capture images underwater in the most eco and art friendly way. As a videographer and photographer at resorts I chronicled many vacationing divers on film and video. THE CHALLENGE of capturing rare and everyday animal behavior at just the right moment, in just the right way in hopefully a different and artful way is the greatest feeling on earth. A personal project was studying the Yellowhead Jawfish for nine months capturing the cycle of eggs gestation to release many times over with a 2x conversion lens. Personal projects like the jawfish, a weekly shoot with the animals at Bonaire's Town Pier and Cayman's friendly Nassau groupers and turtles has convinced me how special these friends of the sea are. Sharing those moments with others through my imagery and photo and video courses has been a part of my work as a photographer and instructor. There is so much to learn and enjoy from the seas - everyday in the water is an adventure and education. Realizing the importance of protecting the seas is usually by experiencing the waters first hand. I believe there is no better way than through the lens of a camera whether it is by viewing it oneself or through someone else's eyes. SO FAR, my quest and love for the sea and artistic photography has led me to work in the waters of Bonaire, the Bahamas , Cayman , Turkey , Egypt , California , Cozumel , Florida , Texas and even Oklahoma . My images have appeared in advertising brochures and web sites for resorts and travel agencies. They have been featured in major travel and dive magazines, fish id books, videos and dvds. I am regular contributor to Sport Diver magazine and supporter of REEF and REEFNET through my imagery. Videography has appeared on the Nature Channel, The Today Show and a short on The Year of the Reef. (see below for list)I have shared my images in support of the Antinea Foundation, Sensational Seas dvd, turtle clubs and marine parks. Julie Morgan has a Bachelor of Fine Art and post graduate work in commercial art from the University of Texas in Austin , Texas . She is a photographer, videographer, PADI instructor (photo spec; video spec.; peak performance buoyancy; nitrox; rebreather; medic first aid). Morgan is a regular contributor or to Sport Diver magazine. She is presently working as a newspaper reporter/photojournalist for a weekly newspaper in Oklahoma .
