If at anytime you leave a paved road, you have made a wrong turn.
When you leave the town of Fortuna, proceed 8 kilometers towards the town of El Tanque. Make a left turn at the first intersection across from the hardware store. Continue on this road for about 3 kilometers. After you pass a little bridge make a right turn at the first intersection towards the town of Muelle. Stay on this road for about 20 kilometers until you come to an intersection with a gas station on your left hand side. Continue straight on the same road for about 13 kilometers until you reach another intersection with a field of
palm trees on the left. Make a right and drive about 6 kilometers to a dead end intersection. There is an iron man sculpture on your left. Make a right and drive for about 6 kilometers to the town of Aguas Zarcas. At the stop sign you will see a church across the street, make a left turn towards Venecia. Before you enter Venecia, at the blinking light bear left and go through the towns of Rio Cuarto and San Miguel.
When you get to San Miguel, take your first right at the police station. Follow the signs to Vara Blanca and
Heredia. You will see the La Paz Waterfall on your right as you go over the bridge on your way up the hill. The Peace Lodge is 1/2 a kilometer ahead on your right.
From the Airport Area or San José going through Alajuela :
Take the Pan-American Highway towards the International Airport and take the Alajuela exit. Continue straight on this road for 12 miles following the signs for Poás Volcano. At the dead end three-way intersection take a right. Proceed for one mile to the town of Poasito and make another right at the intersection where it says Heredia – Vara Blanca – Sarapiqui. Make a left at the gas station at Vara Blanca and proceed for 3 miles. Waterfall Gardens is on the left.
From Downtown San José through Heredia:
Take the main road into Heredia passing the National University and follow the signs for the town of Barva. Upon reaching Barva follow the signs for the Poás Volcano – Vara Blanca – Sarapiqui. Proceed 25 miles following the signs for Poás Volcano until you reach the town of Vara Blanca. At the gas station make a right towards Sarapiqui and continue on this road for 3 miles until you see Waterfall Gardens on your left.
From Guanacaste:
If you are North of Flamingo:
Take the Panamerican highway or Highway 1 from Liberia towards San José; pass through the towns of Bagaces and Canas until you get to the town of Esparza. Continue on Highway 1 for about 50 miles until you get to the town of Alajeula. Take the Pan-American Highway towards the International Airport and take the Alajuela exit. Continue straight on this road for 12 miles following the signs for Poás Volcano. At the dead end three-way intersection take a right.
