All of our tours are designed so that cyclists of all skill levels can bike at their own pace. Our tour leaders know the routes in detail and are always able to offer both shorter and longer options to satisfy everyone on the trip. Bike Arenal's support vehicles are equipped with first aid kits, rain ponchos, spare bikes, spare parts and complete tool kits.

Tour Descriptions

• Half Day Mountain Bike Tour
Arenal Lake to El Castillo

- Distance: 13 to 26 km / 8 to 16 milesAltitude gain: 85 mts / 280 feet
- Terrain: Secondary road of gravel and sand with a few rocky spots.
- Difficulty: Easy to moderate, flat with a few short hills.

This ride takes us on an old road connecting Arenal Dam with the main entrance to Arenal Volcano National Park. From there we go towards the Arenal Observatory Lodge and the village of El Castillo. We'll be biking on a quiet lane surrounded by dense forest and a few cattle farms. Along the ride we often see howling monkeys, coatis, and many birds like toucans, egrets and king fishers. We'll stop for a picnic on the shore of Lake Arenal where it's possible to swim. The volcano is visible during most of the ride and we can often hear its activity while we bike.

A. Boat and Mountain Bike on Lake Arenal

- Distance: 40 km / 25 miles
- Altitude gain: 275 m / 900 ft
- Terrain: Single track with some muddy and rocky sections and secondary road of gravel and sand.
- Difficulty: Moderate

We'll start this adventure by taking a 20-min boat ride from Arenal Dam to the mouth of Río Chiquito on the opposite side of the lake. From there we'll ride on a trail around the lake crossing a few streams and passing by small family farms until we meet the Caño Negro River where we'll stop for a delicious picnic lunch. The ride then takes us by the Arenal Volcano National Park where we have the option of entering the Park and doing a short walk on one of the trails (entrance fee not included) or continuing by bike back to the Dam.

B. Road Biking around Lake Arenal

- Distance: 30 km to 45 km / 19 to 28 miles
- Altitude gain: 575 m / 1,886 ft
- Terrain: Rolling hills. Road mostly paved with some sections of gravel.
- Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

Price: US $ 65 per person

This is our traditional tour on the road around the north shore of Arenal Lake. This lane has very little traffic and offers the most relaxing ride through tropical forest full of monkeys, birds and the views of the lake as well as a chance to feel the unhurried rural life in this remote part of Costa Rica. We'll offer a picnic snack and lunch will be served at a restaurant at the end of the ride.
