Day One: Arenal Dam to Tronadora, north road 61 km / 38 miles
We'll start at Arenal Dam taking the paved road on the north side of the lake. Long stretches of it go through secondary forest; later it's farms and little villages. We are biking in a depression right on the continental divide so we can appreciate the change in the landscape from the green lush on the East Side of the lake to the drier windier West Side. Our hotel is in the village of Tronadora, one of the towns that had to be moved when they flooded this area in the late 70's.
Day two: Tronadora to Arenal Dam, south road 52 km / 32 miles
From Tronadora we stay on the gravel road on the south side of the lake until the village of Río Chiquito. From here the path is even narrower going through deep forest and crossing small streams until we get to Río Caño Negro. We'll all get our feet wet crossing this one. The road goes in front of the Arenal Volcano giving us the chance to enjoy the best views of the mountain. We often hear it rumble and see big clouds of smoke come out of its top. Towards the end of the ride we are biking by Arenal National Park's main entrance and back to Arenal Dam.

For those who like to ride hard without the pressure of a race we've developed our THREE VOLCANOES TOUR. Over two years in the making with new single track sections added each year, this three-day ride rolls up and down hills, across river and through private ranches and national parks as it makes its way up Costa Rica's Northern Volcanic Range. We carry tools and spares in our camel back while our support vehicle transports luggage daily to our overnight lodges.
We ride 4 to 5 hours each day and stay in the best lodges along the way to relax and enjoy the afternoon soaking in hot water pools while drinking a "michelada" (Cold beer with lime juice and salt) or while enjoying the longest canopy tour in Latin America
