Had an awesome experience diving...friendly people, perfect ecosystem, & great beer!
My wife and I went down to Costa Rica for our 3 week honeymoon and couldn't have been happier with our location choice. After 2 weeks of exploring the country, we headed to Jaco for our first round of diving. We went out to Tortuga Island and did 2 dives. The water was a little murky and we only had about 15-20' visibility max, but had the vis been better, the diving would've been awesome. Our guides (from www.costaricadive.com) were great and definitely knew what they were talking about. Got to go to the beach on Tortuga to relax and have lunch before the boat ride back. The scenery was awesome and made the trip worthwhile even though the dives were a little disappointing due to visibility.
Our next trip took us down to the town of Sierpe for the boat ride to Cano Island. Long boat ride, but definitely worth the trip. Cano is a must-do for the serious diver. We swam with schools of white tip reef sharks and numerous other species of fish. Visibility was outstanding and the current was very light. The coral/rock formations were impressive, but paled in comparison to the abundance of fish life. The beach out on Cano was great as well. The perfect place for a family to go and have a beach party. My wife and I can't wait to make it back out there and have given serious thought to early retirement. Rolando from costaricadive.com set everything up and made the process stress free. He and his company made our diving trip a very enjoyable experience and even worked with us when we couldn't make a day of diving due to a clumsy husband injury. Thanks Rolando and good luck to anybody going to CR!
